A great plugin, and I'm nearly there with integrating it -- but am stumped on something.

When a customer goes through the process of ordering a product via PayPal, but then change their mind and cancel the order they are redirected back to the Transaction Results page -- which is blank.

What's more, the order is set as status "Order Received" in the backend, with the cancelled order registered as a sale.

Everything else works as it should (though I had to use the shopping cart PayPal button, and not the Buy Now button -- or else I got a blank Transaction Results page on successful orders as well).

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing a blank Transaction Results page when the PayPal order is cancelled? To the devs, what should happen when the PayPal IPN returns a cancelled message?

I think I've read every message on this board related to "paypal", and while a number of them vaguely reference blank Trans. Results pages, most had to do with the first problem -- those that didn't had gone a lengthy time with no answer.

    Any help is much appreciated.

Same issue. Just posted about this as well. I'll add that the transaction does cancel if using Paypal Express. When canceling at the Paypal site, it returns to the transaction details page and states transaction canceled. However, using Payments Standard it does not.

    bump...

I was able to change my gateway to PayPal Express and it returns 'Transaction Canceled' when backing out of PayPal. However the order still comes through as order received. Any solution?

Yeah I too have this issue so I took out the Paypal button all together and just accept credit cards. It is sad that a simple logic like this can go wrong.

It appears the way it is programmed, once the cart leaves and comes back from Paypal it assumes it has successfully processed the payment without checking to see if the process is/was canceled.

Has this issue stranded here? I think this detail is very important- to get my webshop running without me turning insane while cleaning up in the backend like a maniac...

I have the same problem when it comes to canceled orders still registering as processed orders. I dug a little deeper to figure out exactly what's going on and as far as I can tell WP eCommerce registers a sale as final the second someone clicks the Pay button and jumps to PayPal - so way before a purchase is actually made.

This is premature to say the least. And extremely confusing for the owner of the site.

I've worked with a different shopping cart solution in the past and I know PayPal passes verification and cancelation info back to the original site. I have no idea why WP eCommerce doesn't take advantage of this.

In short it is something that needs to be fixed sooner rather than later.

On a sidenote: Does this happen with all PayPal options? I've only tested it on Website Payments Standard. Maybe it's different if you use the Pro API? If so I want to know so I can fix it.

I'm beginning to wonder why I ever thought it would be worth the $40 to purchase the gold version for a shopping cart that leaves a pretty major detail in the lurk for 5 months. For as much time as I have spent already fixing several other obvious problems with the cart, this is just getting a little ridiculous. Demanding a refund is about the only thing on my mind at this point.

Yes, pay more money for someone else to make a product I already paid for work. I'm not in the business of buying software only to spend more money to make it work.

    Doesn't matter. I'm outtie.

You guys have a great idea here, it just needs a little help to the finish line.

GKauten, I run my stores on the basis that I don't ship an order unless it's Accepted Payment or a manual payment. Having a "Order Cancelled" status would be nice but is not a requirement hence recommendation to contact a WordPress expert. All the best :)

I have to agree with the above post. When an order goes through PayPal properly it is marked as Accepted Payment. When I see it as Order Received, I remove it after a day (if it has gone through PayPal) when it hasn't changed to Accepted Payment.

To be honest with you all, it is pretty easy and simple to do. It would be nice to have it not register at all, but what I tend to do is email the customer about the paypal payment because they might have done something wrong - I actually convert most of the canceled transactions into paid transactions with a simple email to the customer!

I don't see this as a massive problem, if you are taking orders from multiple payment gateways it might be confusing - I also take BACS which is also put to Order Received - but I tackled this by adding the payment method to my sales log so I can easily differentiate between them. Do a search for Order ID and find the thread on here.

I manage to do all this easily and I get many transactions per day!

In my opinion you can treat it as a feature because for any failed payment that comes in as "Order Received" you still have another chance to convert this customer by contacting them. Maybe they are a sincere customer which just happens to get a failed transaction.

So, even if I treat as a feature - we I can see your points - is there anywhere I can do something about the blank transaction page? With auto return on, this looks really lame to the customer when they come back. Any ideas?

Add my name to the list. Just found out this "feature". The blank transaction page is a problem.

I agree wholeheartedly with GKauten. The way the abandoned sales are handled in this plugin is confusing at best. For a store owner it looks like something went wrong on the PayPal end and it can easily end up causing great confusion when the store owner contacts the customer asking what happened.

As a bare minimum these non-purchases should be tagged as cancelled. That's not a premium feature you should have to pay extra for - it's a fundamental standard feature all point-of-sales systems have.

FYI, the Order Received on cancelled orders is also a problem with Google Checkout.

What is the deal with this system. Does it actually work? I have same problems, and cannot find an answer.
