When I'm at any product and I click on Add to Cart, it seems like something happens (the Updating Cart cog turns), but when I click on Checkout, "Oops you're cart is empty."

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Hmm, no answer... Just tried deactivating and re-activating the plug-in - no change.

Could it be the database settings? Loading Products has been no problem.

    Something in the Store Settings?

I have the same problem on my site: http://alpacasohio.com/blog/products-page/. The "Add to Cart" button doesn't add anything to the cart. If I use the "Buy Now" button it works fine.
I am using WP 2.9.2 and WP Shopping Cart 3.7.5.3. I would be very grateful if anyone can suggest a solution.
    Thanks.

I actually fixed this issue already but for the life of me, I can't remember what I did because this was one of the first problems I encountered...I will post here if it comes back to me...

For what it's worth, I bought and installed the Gold Cart, and Shayne's book.

A checkbox somewhere, reinstalling something, messing gently with the code, a theme template problem ... ?

    How about my Settings/Payment Options?

Right now 2 are activated: Manual Payment / Test Gateway and Paypal Payments Standard.

Paypal Payments Standard is also chosen in the Payment Gateways configuration dropdown. The Paypal account is functional.

I'm just nervous about "fixing" something that ain't broke.

There are a bunch of people who are having problems with adding stuff to the cart, and IPN notifications. A bit of a common theme is that they *seem* to have their blog in a subdirectory, e.g.

    http://www.foo.com/wordpress/

    rather than just

    http://www.foo.com

If you're one of the posters in this thread can you confirm:
    - What folder your *main* wordpress code is in, e.g. what folder is the wp-content folder within?
    - What have you got set for "Wordpress Address" in your Wordpress settings (Settings > General)
    - What have you got set for "Blog Address" in your Wordpress settings (Settings > General)

Ah, you got me - I'm running from a wordpress folder inside public_html:

    http://www.harpsoflorien.com/wordpress/

Wordpress Address is set at http://www.harpsoflorien.com/wordpress

"Blog Address" is also set at http://www.harpsoflorien.com/wordpress

I'm willing to move up into public_html. If so, would a re-install be best?

    I'm having the same problem.

My WordPress installation is in the public_html folder.

My WordPress and Blog addresses are both http://soundsgoodmusik.com.

I have the same site hosted on my server http://soundsgoodmusic.curtisblackwell.com.

My hosting is with lunarpages, my client's is with IPOWER.

I exported the database tables from my server and imported them to my client's using phpMyAdmin.

Another plugin isn't working properly either. It's called ebay Sales Lister… could it be something with the host?

ahhh… no. i used domain masking… so it's actually accessing my server for now.

not sure if there's a way to check out the IPOWER install while that's going on, but that's what the client wanted me to do. we're waiting to hear back from the host. client may switch hosts once their plan expires.

I'm having the same problem. I add to cart. Fancy cart spins and adds it to the cart in the widget. If I click Go to Checkout, it says the cart is empty. But sometimes, a product DOES get into the cart. Fine. Then I keep shopping... the widget cart will sometimes then show the product in the widget cart and sometimes say empty. Then I try to add other products. Again, the wheels turn, it appears in the widget cart. When I go to checkout, it's not there, or the other other product that I got into checkout cart is the only product there. I keep shopping... the widget cart again sometimes shows the products in the cart & sometimes doesn't. I go to Checkout. Only 1 product is in there. I update the quantity to 0. NOW, the other 2 products show up in the Checkout cart.

I have everything in the public_html directory. My Wordpress and Blog Addresses are http://www.k9medicinals.com

Note, I've reverted to our old site for now. To check out this issue, go here:
    http://www.k9medicinals.com/products

    I'm using 3.7.6 RC1

Thanks for checking, Roy! You beat me back here before I could announce my findings.... for me, it was a caching issue. I had W3 Total Cache installed, and when I disabled that, it started working again.

I'm not sure if there's a better way to do W3 Total Cache or Super Cache along with wp-ecommerce, but I've never gotten those caching plugins to work without messing up something else in WP. Of course, that's another topic all together I suppose....

For some it may be working but you don't see it. My first install I didn't have the cart widget on so all I see is the spinning gear like nothing happened. So I turned on Fancy Notification. Now I get the box that says item added. I also turned on the widget and now I see items added to cart whether I have Fancy on or off.

For reference I run WP E-Commerce alongside W3 Total Cache without any problems whatsoever ...

Check what order you've added your JS / CSS files in ...

Sorry, I got so frustrated I quit trying for awhile.

The damn thing is still not working.

    http://www.harpsoflorien.com/wordpress/

Right now I have Fancy notification On, I'm using the Cart Widget...

When I try to buy something, anything, the cog turns, the item shows up in the Widget, but when I Go to Checkout, "Oops your cart is empty."

I'm just about done with WP ecommerce - I'm frustrated, my client is rightly furious, there's no support to turn to, no one can find the problem.

    Anyone tried Interspire?

I am not sure if it has anything to do with your blog not being in the root domain...But just throwing an idea....

It'd be so cool if someone could say "oh yeah, it's THIS, and here's what to do"...

"I am not sure..." doesn't really fill me with confidence that we've nailed down the problem.

It seems like there's a path to the Checkout that needs to be altered somewhere so that the product actually finds its way into the Cart.

But I'm nervous about changing something that isn't broken.

Placing wordpress in its own directory was an option when I first set up, and I haven't had any problems populating the store... If I move all the files out into the host directory, won't that mess up access to the database?

If it comes down to it, I'll start over from scratch, but it'd be great to hear that that's my only option.

Can I delete just the wp-e-commerce directory and reinstall it with minimal damage?

Hey the same thing is happening to me... I add the product into the cart and then when I go to checkout... Nothing. When I add it with the widget or the Fancy on it shows on the page. However the moment I try to go to the checkout page it shows I have nothing in there.

I will keep trying I am sure it is something stupid however I have now done a fresh install and still nothing.

My web hosting is being done through FatCow... that may have something to do with it however I have done the install in the root directory.

I am going to try going though everything but trying to figure out what is calling what in this code is pretty hard. Will post something if I figure it out.

Okay for the life of me I cannot figure out where the HE!! this code is writing to. Basically what seems to be occurring is that a global variable $wpsc_cart is not being written to. I can not figure out how to see what is happening as it is ajax ( my ajax is weak lol ) I will figure it out but that seems to be the problem. However it seems to be filling the shopping cart sliding widget which means it is getting through that code. It may be loosing the variable data at some point... but hard to say for certain... Any thoughts of people more knowledgeable?

Figured out the problem. On my end it was that since I am on a hosted server ( fatCow in this case ) it was not allowing sessions to be written. So no matter what the data could not be stored. I had to go into the php.ini and set up a session path where the sessions could be written to.

Hopefully this helps someone out there where you don't think to check for that.

I think you're onto something. Unfortunately, as more of a designer than programmer, I've got no idea what you're talking about...

"I had to go into the php.ini and set up a session path where the sessions could be written to."

I want to do that, but I don't know how. Can I? Should I?

Is this something my host (StartLogic) should do for me?

Thanks, Innocent, for zeroing in on my particular problem. I think I'm getting closer.

    I had the same problem.
Setup is IIS7 with custom 404 handler and pretty premalinks.
I had my permalink structure set to /%category%./%postname%/ when I imported the site to another server.
All I did was make web.config writeable for wordpress and then updated the permalink structure to /%postname%/ as in this post here http://www.caspianit.co.uk/wordpress-iis7-url-rewrite/

I think this problem is caused by the web.config rewrite rules not being correctly set for wordpress permalink structure so that the add to cart button does not successfully locate the url in its action element i.e. <form action="some url"

Hope this helps. Just to let you know also that other forms on my wordpress site were also not posting so this problem is not due to wp e commerce - its due to your wordpress setup on IIS7
