Stripe Integration Has Landed at WPEC

As we kick off “The Year of the User” at WPEC, we’re launching the much requested Stripe integration to our stores.  If you’ve not used Stripe yet, we like to think of it like a Square for the web. It makes online payment idiot proof with straightforward fees and none of the messy PCI work. In simple terms- set it and forget it.  No merchant accounts, payment gateways, processing, and users can store their info for fast future checkout, yes, even subscriptions – Stripe handles it all. Payments land in your bank every 7 days.

  1. Accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB, Diners Club
  2. Minimum charge of $.50 for transactions
  3. Account must be US based, but accepts payment from customers worldwide
  4. Excellent support, including GitHub code snippets and samples
  5. Full ownership of data, ability to export if you choose to leave

If you’re trying to get up off the ground with online sales and the water seems muddy and confusing, Stripe is an excellent way to get moving fast without the fuss. At WPEC, we’re psyched about this new payment option. Download it as a core plugin. Have any issues, just ask, and if you’re looking for another payment gateway, request it here – we’re listening.

This is great news! Thanks for releasing this.

    A couple questions:
    1. What API key do you use on the payments settings page? (public or private)
    2. Does it work with the test API keys stripe provides?
    3. When is the user prompted for their credit card info? On the same page as billing information?

    Thanks you!

Hey Jay. I just notified our team member that developed the stripe gateway of your questions. Hopefully he’ll be here to answer em soon :)

I read the hype about Bhuvan being able to zoom to 10 m versus Google’s 100m. I was very happy and proud to be an Indian .I dawolonded it and found that Bhuvan does not even give images that are a fifth as detailed as the free google version, besides hanging at the slightest excuse. Now I’m disappointed and a bit ashamed that an Indian Governmental organization would stoop to misrepresentation to try and get accolades, which judging by the majority of comments on this site they seemed to have succeeded in getting. Most of the people giving them accolades have probably not tried out the plugin. I doubt anybody could praise ISRO without choking after actually trying the product. And as for those who think ISRO should be commended for just trying, I would say that we should stop being satisfied with substandard products.

      Hey Jay,
      1. You would use your private API key, although I believe that all API keys will work.
      2. When developing I was actually using their test API keys, so the answer would be a big 10-4
      3. The user will be prompted for their credit card information in the checkout page.

      Hope that helps!

Thanks for the quick response Chris and Dan,

I went ahead and purchased the Stripe plugin but was unable to get it to work. It seems like a few other folks in the support forums had the same problem.

Do you guys have any advice?

      • mikethebig1 February 3, 2012 at 7:34 pm

The user is never prompted for their Credit Card info, and it always returns as invalid card info. Is there any fix for this? Several people in the forums are having the same issue.

I like the interface but esthonly it is far off from being a world beater. Even after delay and so much of hype I am far from happy with what I see11 MB of plugin that works only on IE and pathetic speeds of download.Application crashes more times than it works. The search results are all lost.Looks like something outsourced to Microsoft. Its kind of proving the theory that our IT pro’s are only good for labour outsourcing rather than skillsI hope things get better in future. I think they should hire some top quality consultants for UI, hardware setup and infra and communication. Wishing ISRO and Bhuvan good luck

,2. Accessing to sand box It won’t happen in India becoz of veaird pricing model, These guys feel that only clients needs to access the sand box or test mode. They feel it would help them to manage their system. More over Only people in India do accept payments in INR and not people in US or any other country. So they need to have a presence in India. But this is not the same with Paypal or Amazon payments. Paypal doesn’t even support INR still. – Reg. Billing info duplication: I recently came across a client who already had their ecommerce setup when trying to look at their system the address field is just 255 varchar and they missed their billing or shipping address, they went on to the payment portal and found out and correct it. See I prefer collecting it in our end and passing across is the most robust way so you don’t miss any data on the way (from / to) payment gateway-Available via Feed: Did you talked to any of the providers and requested for? I guess they might be interested in providing you that. But not sure about it I might agree that these systems needs more perfection from the current state but I would certainly say that they have came from worst to good and not still great. See in days like 2005 where you have lot of process in getting approval for a payment gateway, I still remember days where I met HDFC & ICICI Branch managers to get info and get things done, with hectic prices which I am sure a startup cannot afford. But when you compare those days with now its far better enough. You need to accept the fact that you are still living in India. You cannot do everything without a time delay and compromise on quality. I accept that there is a great market for a new entrant or even an old entrant who can just listen to the past customers of existing payment gateways.

Hey guys, recently purchased this add-on and it just doesn’t seem to be working at all. When the option to pay by credit card is presented and chosen, there is no way to input the credit card numbers. Any help would be great! Thanks.

  3. Mychelle February 8, 2012 at 3:59 pm

    Hi Adam,

    Michelle here from WPEC

Sorry to hear your having these problems, I have an updated version of the plugin that I am going to email you now this should resolve all your problems.

  4. Anthony February 9, 2012 at 12:35 pm

You asked about payment gateways. I’d like to see DPS, which was part of the gold cart upgrade, actually working. It’s been broken for months and no-one at Instinct has acknowledged the issue :(

    • Marcia March 8, 2012 at 4:36 pm

Agree with the reasons cited for why the totnsacairn processing success rate is much lower than other countries. However, even if you discount the current 23% failure rate by half for totnsacairns that are attempted using cards which dont work online or are not yet 3D secure What about credit and debit cards that are enabled for online payments and their banks are 3D secure? Are we saying the totnsacairn failure rate is different for them? Take a HDFC or ICICI card and try it on 5 different websites, you will find many a times the card fails even on a site using its own payment gateway. This is an opportunity!

  5. Mychelle February 9, 2012 at 3:08 pm

    Hi Anthony,

I’m Michelle from WPEC I can probably help you resolve this problem, first off what DPS payment gateway are you using is it payment express / px post? could you also please tell me the access url you are posting your requests to and your Gold Cart version?

DPS made some changes a while back to their URL’s the Gold Cart was updated to allow for this change however I notice in the code that its possible the old url could still be set in the options table and the new one is not been called.

This would be a very easy fix if you would like to get in contact with me michelle@instinct.co.nz then I would be happy to work through this with you so we can ensure its resolved for everyone.

I am interested in this plugin, but does it handle recurring payments? I know that Stripe itself does and I am looking for a solution that can handle this.

    • Mychelle February 28, 2012 at 10:40 am

      Hi Zachary,

This current Stripe payment gateway here doesn’t support recurring payments, in saying that WP-e-Commerce doesn’t have an interface to setup recurring products yet.

Recurring products is planned for the future when that happens, the gateways will all be upgraded to support this. In saying that a future relase of this plugin could implement this support.

      Currently its not supported though.

Right u are. I think ISRO wanna get some big Govt money and for that they need to show some initiation, and this is that. It wont cost that much. Software has learady made by Google (or some company worked for Google)so it is not unknown to the software industry. Yes, ISRO should use deshi companies for this. Neither they have that much manpower nor quality .I know who gets there, so i have a little idea about them. My suggestion is build up some small projects (Divide the big) and divide them in very small groups (7-12 people), fix a deadline, tell them if failed, u r out or will be demoted see the result in 3 years dude. Until u kick-out worthless guys u cant get results. They should change the rule It is a govt job and nobody can do anything Any suggestions???????off course from quality people..and please dont be proud again .Thanks!!!!

I bought this plugin, but I’m having no luck geting it to work with the latest beta. I’m a testing environment in hopes of going live very soon. I’ve entered the private testing API key. I get a script error: checkout.class.php on line 763? Any thoughts… Greatly appreciated.

  8. Vijayaraj March 8, 2012 at 5:34 pm

As much as I like the idea, I’d wouldn’t use it with the chgyripot intact.Well, it’s not about the chgyripot thing, but it just looks out of place to me, the position, the font it uses. If only we can modify it and still give credit to it.

We are thinking about using this plugin but — can anyone tell us whether or not it supports digital downloads? I mean: is the WPSC plug-in already working with stripe + digital downloads?

  10. Bankgroup April 23, 2012 at 5:23 pm

I just purchased this plugin and it is not working at all. Every time I go make a test purchase, no information is sent to stripe and I am sent back to the checkout page with no information. Please help. Kinda feels like a waste of $40 right now.

  11. Markus May 11, 2012 at 3:21 am

Has anybody got the Stripe plugin to work successfully?

  12. Mei July 17, 2012 at 3:53 pm

Any word on how this stripe.com plugin is being used? Is it functioning as it should, or is it still broken?

    • Mychelle July 19, 2012 at 11:44 am

      Hi Mei,
Michelle here from WP e-Commerce the Stripe plugin is been used without any errors from time to time we get a few configuration problems like wrong API Key been used to connect to the gateway. The string plugin is going to be getting a bit of extra functionality added soon so watch this space!

  13. elihu August 1, 2012 at 5:23 am

Hi, does the Stripe plugin support Stripe’s ‘vault’? Can a registered user save a credit card for future orders?

If the answer is no, does the Authorize.net AIM plugin support use of Authorize.net’s vault (‘CIM’)?

    • Mychelle August 1, 2012 at 11:11 am

      Hi elihu,
Michelle here from WPEC. Stripe currently doesn’t support the ability to save profiles. There is an authorize.net gateway in the gold Cart that does support CIM. Of course you need to ahve the CIM module enables on your A net account for integration to work.

  14. noi September 25, 2012 at 10:40 am

cannot get this plugin to work, there are no input fields for the credit card info during checkout. any help in getting this resolved would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

    • Michelle September 25, 2012 at 2:23 pm

      Hi Noi,

Can you provide me with a link to your checkout page? Also can you confirm that you have not updated your site from a 3.7 install? Some 3.7 template files can cause havoc with a 3.8 checkout page.
