WP e-Commerce Plugin 3.8.1 and Gold Cart 2.9
We’re pleased to announce WP e-Commerce 3.8.1 and Gold Cart 2.9 (check out the sexy WordPress themed icons pictured above).
Many thousands of people have been upgrading or starting out fresh with the new look WP e-Commerce Plugin. While it has been a smooth upgrade for most of our users we did notice the odd glitch here & there that wasn’t brought to our attention during the months and months of beta testing we performed before launched.
Most of these issues related to old theme files and now after two weeks of working with you we are pleased to say that these bugs are all fixed (and covered in previous blog posts).
Some issues that have been fixed in this version:
- Deprecated functions wpsc_print_product_list() and wpsc_total_product_count()
This will get rid of all the errors that are been caused by people still wanting to use the old theme files from 3.7.8 - Update notice has been modified and improved so all you that haven’t upgraded yet will be directed to upgrade your product database
- php5 requirement notice
after extensive testing we have decided that wp-e-commerce will not run smoothly unless your server is running php5 or greater. - Deprecated $WPSC_Query – we are now just using the WP_query
Other issues are being resolved ASAP and more minor updates will be out to fix these soon – the internal 500 internal server errors are a bit tricky to recreate, so we would love to hear from anyone that is experiencing these so we could take a look at debugging this, we can’t fix what we can’t see.
The product slider has been updated for 3.8 you can all use your session ID and download a new one from the update page
The Gold Cart has been getting some love and it also ready for release you can also upgrade this from the update page
The Gold Cart search probably needs the biggest mention thanks to Gary Cao.
Gold Cart 2.9 contains several bug fixes, and a new display option for live search results:
- Grid view item’s widths are now flexible, meaning they will automatically adapt to the container’s width based on the number of items per row.
- Sort and Items per page dropdown menus are now properly populated
- Fixed compatibility between thickbox gallery display and older themes
- Exclude variations from live search results
- Improve stability and AJAX performance of live search
- Search form is revamped a bit with a new set of sleek icons. You can now switch to “List view” as a display option as well.
- New feature: when doing a live search, instead of a drop-down menu, you can now choose to automatically display search results directly into your product list. In case your theme is not compatible with this feature, Gold Cart will automatically detect and revert to displaying search results using the traditional drop-down menu.
Customer Support
With everyone upgrading at once the support has become very crazy – everyone is working as hard / fast as they can to keep up and help everyone but sometimes there is just not enough hours in a day. Please keep this in mind that when you leave a support topic, also have a look around through the blog posts and other forums – the answer to your error could be there already.
Please remember before upgrading your live stores the usual applys – BACKUP your site and database download the new version and update!

The sales dashboard doesn’t list the product name. It is impossible to include the product name in the admin or customer emails if the product is free. Since you have to run the routine from the ajax_functions.php to bypass PayPal. At that state, there is not a single global variable or session variable containing the product name. What’s even more amazing, is that there is no possible way to GET the product name from the database, since all of the tables are dead ends. purchaseid doesn’t even exist in WPSC, and log_id is only for submitted-form data. ID is some random useless number different on every table. And here’s the kicker, you can’t get the name from the session ID, because it won’t be in the database yet. Furthermore, creating a global variable to always keep the product name fails for no apparent reason. I have to tell my clients, naaah, that can’t be done. Product name can’t be in the e-mail. The e-mail never goes to the customer anyway, and you can’t fix anything it’s call wrapped in illegible functions within functions and useless overcoded crap not fit for human reading. I do not thank you for this product, I do not have any gratitude whatsoever for this torturous sadistic machination. Burn.
I am using gold cart with wp-e-commerce. When I type in a search term, the first page is fine. However, the Next/Previous and other links (2,3,4) do not send me to a page within the search, but to that product page. Please, can anyone help me ?
PS: Michelle already has this, but for anyone else wondering what my error log shows, here it is:
